All farms are located within a 50-kilometer restricted zone, where quarantine has previously been introduced and livestock vaccination has begun. A total of 791 susceptible animals are housed on the affected farms.

Since the beginning of October, nine outbreaks of the disease have been registered in Spain, causing serious concerns among milk and meat producers.

The vaccination campaign started on October 9. Fifteen thousand doses of the vaccine were purchased for the first wave of immunization, with an additional 82,500 doses expected soon. The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture is coordinating actions with regional veterinary services and the EU.

The Union of Farmers and Livestock Breeders of Spain (UNFA) has called on the European Union for strict response measures and a universal vaccination of breeding stock. According to the organization, without coordinated actions, the infection could spread beyond the country's borders.

"The situation requires a pan-European approach. Nodular dermatitis can harm not only animal health but also the export of meat and dairy products," UNFA emphasized.
