Nicolás Pizarro to Lead Antimicrobial Committee in Chile's Dairy Consortium
Nicolás Pizarro, a researcher from INIA, has been appointed to lead the Scientific Committee on Antimicrobials under the Dairy Consortium in Chile. His term will span from 2026 to 2028. This appointment comes as the dairy industry faces increasing scrutiny over the use of antibiotics in livestock production.
The committee's primary focus will be on promoting the responsible use of antimicrobials to ensure both animal health and the safety of dairy products. The use of antibiotics in dairy farming has been a topic of concern due to the potential development of antimicrobial resistance.
According to recent reports, the Dairy Consortium has been actively working on strategies to reduce antibiotic usage without compromising animal welfare. The initiative is part of a broader effort to align with international standards and practices in dairy farming.
Chile, as one of the key players in the Latin American dairy sector, aims to enhance its regulatory framework regarding the use of antimicrobials. This move is expected to bolster the country's export capabilities by ensuring that its dairy products meet global safety standards.
Pizarro's leadership is anticipated to drive significant advancements in how antimicrobials are managed within the industry, contributing to both national and international discussions on the topic.
