New Dairy Factory in Piauí Boosts Family Farming and Processing
The inauguration of the first dairy factory exclusively dedicated to family farming in Piauí marks a significant development in the local agricultural sector. Located in the rural area of José de Freitas, the factory is set to process up to 4,000 liters of milk daily, directly benefiting approximately 50 local milk producers. This initiative seeks to bridge the gap between primary production and processing, thus diminishing the dependency on selling milk solely as raw material.
This project represents a crucial shift in the local dairy industry by integrating an industrial phase into family farming. By doing so, it expands opportunities for utilizing production and strengthens the producers' position in a key segment of the business. The factory, named after Antônio José Sampaio—a notable local milk producer—symbolizes resilience against market access challenges faced by regional producers.
Antônio José Sampaio's story, particularly his protest of pouring unsellable milk onto the streets, highlights the market access difficulties encountered by many farmers. The new factory thus embodies a call for developing alternatives for milk processing and marketing. Scheduled to open on July 4th, the facility is part of a broader local movement that adds value to rural production.
The Piauí que Produz program, which also supports the Frutas Daqui Cooperative in José de Freitas, underscores the strategy of strengthening agro-industrial activities linked to family production. This cooperative benefits around 95 families through fruit pulp production, aligning with the region's goal of bolstering family-based agro-industrial activities.
For local milk producers, the establishment of this processing facility signifies a notable development; it transitions the product from reliance on raw sales to incorporating local processing stages. This change offers producers new roles within the production chain and enhances the valuation of regional production.
