New Dairy Plant to Boost Galicia's Rural Economy
Daily Food Spain has announced its plans to open a new plant in the industrial area of Castro de Rei. The company will refurbish a former facility to produce cream and processed cheeses, investing a total of €14 million. The plant is expected to be operational by 2026.

The facility will span over 3,700 m² dedicated to production and 330 m² for office space. It will have the capacity to produce up to 36,000 tons of dairy products annually, benefiting from high levels of automation and traceability. Among the planned products are cream cheeses, processed cheese slices, and dairy protein MPC80, with a focus on international markets.

Gavieiro e Hijos will supply the raw milk from its four local farms, currently producing 32,000 liters daily, with targets to reach 80,000 liters. The production will be supplemented with sustainability practices, including in-house forage, solar energy, and recycling of by-products.

The mayor of Castro de Rei, Francisco Balado, highlighted that the project will not only create 20 direct jobs but also bolster local raw material transformation, positioning the region as a Galician dairy hub.
