Nestlé Plans to Eliminate Artificial Colorants in the U.S. by 2026
Nestlé is making a significant move by committing to the removal of artificial colorants from its U.S. food and beverage portfolio by mid-2026. The company has already made substantial progress, with over 90% of its products free from synthetic dyes. This decision is part of a broader regulatory push led by Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., aiming to cleanse the U.S. food system due to concerns over its links to ADHD, obesity, and diabetes.

Nestlé's initiative is in line with industry giants like Conagra, General Mills, and Kraft Heinz, who have set similar timelines between 2026 and 2027 to eliminate artificial colorants, including in school foods. Over the past decade, Nestlé has been reducing these ingredients, adapting its recipes with natural alternatives in response to growing consumer and regulatory demand for healthier formulas. As Marty Thompson, CEO of Nestlé USA, highlights, the decision reflects evolving nutritional preferences, prioritizing recognizable ingredients that hold value for consumers.
