Nandini's Bold Move Towards Sustainability

In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Karnataka Milk Federation’s (KMF) flagship brand Nandini has launched the use of biodegradable corn-based milk packet covers. This innovative move aims to mitigate the negative environmental impact posed by traditional plastic covers, which have long challenged urban disposal systems. Bamul, a key affiliate of KMF, is spearheading this initiative by testing these eco-friendly milk packets that naturally decompose in soil.
The pilot project was launched in Hunasanahalli village, located in Kanakapura taluk of Bengaluru South district. Despite existing regulations against single-use plastics, milk distribution has predominantly utilized polythene packets that take over a century to decompose. To counter this, Bamul has procured 200,000 biodegradable covers made from corn-based material, sourced from Chennai, to trial their effectiveness in compostability.
This strategic initiative demonstrates Nandini's commitment not only to innovation but also to its role in reducing plastic waste and promoting environmentally friendly practices in the dairy industry.
