Dairy Productivity of Cows in Russia Increased by 4.5% Over 9 Months of 2025

According to the Analytical Center Milknews, dairy productivity of cows in agricultural organizations in Russia (excluding small-scale farming) showed significant growth in January-September 2025. Average milk yields per cow increased by 4.5% compared to the same period last year, averaging 6716 kg, which is 291 kg more.
The most impressive increase in average cow productivity was recorded in the following regions:
• Karachay-Cherkess Republic: +2630 kg
• Irkutsk Region: +1008 kg
• Penza Region: +930 kg
• Rostov Region: +926 kg
• Kaliningrad Region: +742 kg
• Saratov Region: +622 kg
Notably, among the top 25 milk producers, average cow productivity decreased only in the Leningrad Region (by 1%).
Despite the positive productivity dynamics, the total cattle population across all farming categories by early October 2025 remained 3.6% below last year's figure, totaling 7.19 million heads. In agricultural organizations, the cattle population decreased by 1.7% over the year, to 3 million heads. The largest decline in cattle population was observed in the Bryansk Region (by 25,000 heads), as well as in the Moscow, Novosibirsk, Kaluga, Rostov, and Voronezh regions.
