Major Agricultural Investments Transform Kaduna State's Agro-Industrial Landscape
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has been instrumental in transforming the state's agro-industrial sector through strategic partnerships and investments. A notable collaboration is with Saro Agro Sciences, involving a $20 million agreement to cultivate premium maize and soybean seeds over 2,000 hectares. This project is designed to improve access to high-quality inputs for farmers, thereby increasing yields and productivity.
Additionally, an international partnership with Arla Foods has revolutionized dairy production in the region. In 2023, Arla invested 10 million Euros in a new facility at Damau Household Milk Farm, expected to produce 4-5 million kg of milk annually. This venture aims to support 1,000 households by providing improved cows, pasture, and veterinary services, aligning with broader livestock reforms.
Moreover, the Nigeria-China Poultry Project, valued at $450 million, is progressing with Kaduna as the pilot state. The project involves maize and soybean cultivation on 10,000 hectares for poultry feed, with plans for a large-scale poultry facility to produce over a million eggs daily by December 2025. The initiative is anticipated to create 50,000 direct jobs and enhance food security.
The state's agricultural transformation is further supported by a significant increase in budget allocation, with a rise from N1.48 billion in 2023 to N74.02 billion in 2025, facilitating infrastructure and mechanization improvements. The establishment of the Agricultural Quality Assurance Centre ensures produce meets international standards, aiding exports under the African Continental Free Trade Area.
Governor Sani's efforts also include partnerships with organizations like the African Development Bank and UNICEF, focusing on risk mitigation and enhancing farmers' access to resources. These initiatives are part of a broader vision to establish Kaduna as a self-sustaining agro-industrial hub.
