Madhya Pradesh Government Hands Over Dairy Operations to NDDB for Five Years
The move, aimed at boosting milk production and increasing farmers' incomes, was met with opposition from the Congress party, which expressed concerns over potential "backdoor" attempts by Gujarat’s Amul to take over MP’s state-run milk brand, Sanchi.
Chief Minister Yadav highlighted the state’s strong position in milk production, ranking third nationally and producing 9-10% of India's total milk output. He emphasized the government's commitment to making Madhya Pradesh a national leader in milk production through enhanced support for animal husbandry and dairy farming.
With daily milk production at 5.5 crore litres, the state also surpasses the national average for milk availability, providing 644 grams per person per day compared to the national average of 459 grams. The government aims to double milk production in the next five years.
Officials from NDDB and the Union Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Dairying also participated in the meeting. Necessary legal amendments to the Cooperative Act may be introduced to facilitate the partnership.
