Listeria Outbreak Prompts Cheese Recall in Ireland

Batches of ricotta and buffalo cheese produced by Toons Bridge Dairy in Macroom have been recalled by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) after tests revealed the presence of the bacterial illness, listeria monocytogenes. This recall includes the 200g and 1kg packs of Toons Bridge Dairy Ricotta & Buffalo Ricotta with use-by dates from 28/08/2025 to 05/09/2025. Retail outlets have been instructed to display recall notices at the point-of-sale.

Consumers are advised not to consume the affected batches due to potential health risks. Symptoms of a listeria infection include mild flu-like symptoms, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, with potential severe complications for vulnerable groups such as pregnant women, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems. The incubation period for the infection averages three weeks, ranging from three to 70 days.

Additional details can be found on the FSAI's official website. Toons Bridge Dairy is located just outside Macroom.
