The dairy farmers in Ahome municipality are optimistic about Liconsa's forthcoming program to purchase milk at a guaranteed price of 11.50 pesos per litre, opposed to the current 8 pesos received.

The leader of the local farmers expects the refrigeration tanks needed for this initiative to be ready within a month and a half.

This arrangement is seen as an opportunity to deliver 20,000 litres of milk daily to Liconsa, providing financial predictability for farmers long burdened by fluctuating prices.

The program's assurances are contingent upon timely government funding across all levels to refurbish the aging infrastructure necessary for efficient milk collection.

Further investments will focus on nutrient addition, forage, and concentrated alfalfa to improve cattle nutrition, aiming to meet Liconsa's high-quality standards.

According to the president of the Local Livestock Association, "Y eso es una ventaja no baja el precio porque es un precio de garantía de 11.50 pesos, el litro de leche que nosotros venderíamos a Liconsa y vendría a ser un punto regulador para los que nos compran leche que son los queseros de que tendrán que pagarlo a 11.50 o a un poco más."

As facilities are readied, the potential growth looks promising, mitigating longstanding commercial uncertainties faced by the sector.
