Lazy J Dairy Implements Sustainable Practices in National Dairy Month
Lazy J Dairy, a fourth-generation farm located in Luxemburg, Wisconsin, is marking National Dairy Month by focusing on sustainability initiatives. The farm, operated by Robert and Cody Jeanquart, has a rich family history, with Robert Jeanquart’s grandfather originally purchasing it.
The farm has adopted several sustainability practices to ensure its continued operation. One such practice is the implementation of double cropping and cover crops, which help preserve topsoil during the winter months. Cody Jeanquart highlighted the effectiveness of cover crops, stating that they were particularly beneficial during recent heavy rains, as they helped save a significant amount of soil.
In addition to agricultural practices, Lazy J Dairy installed a solar energy system last year. According to Robert Jeanquart, the solar panels have been instrumental in reducing the farm's energy costs, contributing to both environmental and economic sustainability.
The farm also prioritizes animal welfare, investing in newer buildings with improved ventilation and more fans. Cody Jeanquart expressed pride in the quality care provided to the animals, which is essential for producing high-quality milk.
As part of the celebration of National Dairy Month, the Jeanquarts encourage consumers to support local dairy farmers by looking for the “Proudly Wisconsin” logo when purchasing dairy products.
