Lactalis Agreed to Buy Saputo’s UK Dairy Business

Lactalis, the French dairy group, has reached an agreement to acquire Saputo’s dairy business in the United Kingdom. The planned transaction includes five production plants and the transfer of 1,300 employees.

The assets also include several established consumer brands. Cathedral City, Davidstow and Country Life are among the labels included in the proposed acquisition.

The deal is scheduled to be completed in 2027. Until then, the transaction remains an agreed purchase rather than a completed transfer of the business.

The acquisition would add activities in several dairy categories to Lactalis’s presence in the British market. These include cheddar cheese, butter and spreads.

Cheddar is identified as one of the main product areas covered by the operation. Butter and spreads are also included in the business being acquired, alongside the brands and industrial sites.

The transaction therefore concerns both manufacturing capacity and branded dairy products. Its stated scope comprises five plants, 1,300 employees and the named brands, with the planned completion date set for 2027.
