Lactalis Acquires Queijos Tavares to Boost Cheese Production in Portugal

Lactalis is set to enhance its presence in the Portuguese cheese market through the acquisition of Queijos Tavares.

Lactalis, the French dairy giant, announced on May 5, 2025, its agreement to purchase the Portuguese cheese manufacturer Queijos Tavares from Crest Capital Partners. This acquisition includes two production sites located in Seia and Fundão.
Founded in 1996, Queijos Tavares specializes in cow, sheep, and goat cheeses under brands such as Seia do Tavares, Serras de Penela, Damar, and Monte da Soalheira. The company is recognized for its specialty sheep cheeses with three Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) accreditations and is a significant supplier to the retail and hospitality sectors in Portugal.
With this acquisition, Lactalis Portugal will incorporate 120 new employees, increasing the total number of employees to 820 across four production sites in the country. This move follows the 2024 acquisition of Sequeira & Sequeira, further solidifying Lactalis's commitment to expanding its footprint in Portugal’s cheese market. The completion of this transaction is subject to regulatory approvals.
