Kyrgyzstan Significantly Increases Whey Imports: Belarus and Kazakhstan Boost Supplies
A year earlier, the republic imported 1.05 thousand tons of whey worth $1.04 million.
Russia maintained its status as the largest exporter of whey to Kyrgyzstan, although its supplies decreased:
-
804.5 tons in 2025 compared to 877.3 tons the previous year
-
a decrease of 8.3%
Despite the decline in physical volumes, the value of supplies increased:
-
to $1.08 million compared to $839.8 thousand the previous year
-
an increase of 28%, reflecting rising prices.
Russia's share in total imports decreased:
-
from 83.6% in 2024,
-
to 64.9% in 2025.
The most dynamic growth was shown by supplies from Belarus, which more than doubled: 318.8 tons in 2025 compared to 142.7 tons in 2024, a growth of 123%.
In monetary terms, imports increased to $454.5 thousand, compared to $159.9 thousand the previous year.
As a result, Belarus increased its market share from 13.6% to 25.7%.
In 2025, Kyrgyzstan began importing whey from new countries.
Notably, Uzbekistan: 65.7 tons for $83.5 thousand, with no supplies the previous year; Kazakhstan: an increase from 28.8 to 50.6 tons, a 76% increase, with the value of supplies amounting to $58.7 thousand.
Supplies from China ceased.
The average price of imported whey increased:
-
from $993 per ton in 2024
-
to $1,351 per ton in 2025
The increase was about 36%, attributed to the global rise in dairy ingredient prices and high demand for whey from the food industry.
