Karachi's Dairy Farmers Demand Price Increase Amid Flood-Induced Losses
Karachi's dairy farmers have raised a demand for increasing milk prices by Rs50 per litre, citing significant financial strain caused by recent floods. According to the Dairy Farmers Association at a press conference held at the Karachi Press Club, the flooding has severely impacted the livelihoods of milk producers. "The rates of almost every item used in the dairy industry have risen by nearly 30%," they reported, further stating that the continued trend threatens the well-being of their livestock with a risk of starvation.

The farmers have been enduring losses estimated at Rs3 billion per day related to milk supply issues. Karachi hosts over one million cattle and buffalo, providing 5 million litres of milk daily to the city. Given the urgent circumstances, the farmers insist on a Rs50 per litre price increase. They have also threatened to protest outside the Sindh Chief Minister’s House if new pricing policies are not enacted by October 1. Currently, milk is sold at Rs220 per litre throughout Karachi.
