Kaduna State in Nigeria has made a significant investment of €10 million in 2023 to establish the Arla Farms located in the Damau area of the Kubau Local Government Area. This modern dairy facility is expected to produce between 4 and 5 million kilograms of milk annually when it reaches full capacity. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to revitalize the livestock sector, improve rural infrastructure, and attract private investment.

Governor Uba Sani, represented by Dr. AbdulKadir Muazu Meyere, emphasized the project's role in boosting local milk production and providing both direct and indirect employment. He also noted the establishment of the Kaduna State Livestock Regulatory Authority, the Kaduna State Livestock Transformation Company, and the Kaduna Ranch Development Company, which are designed to work in synergy.

The unveiling of the Nigeria Dairy Center of Excellence and the commissioning of a new yoghurt factory are among the strategic initiatives that align with Kaduna's agricultural priorities. The Damau Milk Farm Project, developed through a multi-stakeholder collaboration, aims to transform Nigeria's dairy value chain and position Kaduna as a leader in livestock development.

Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, who represented President Bola Tinubu at the event, commended the efforts of the Kaduna State Government and Arla Foods. He pointed out Nigeria's low milk production capacity, noting that the country produces only 0.7 million litres annually, which is below the national demand and global standards. The Minister described the Damau area as an emerging dairy hub.

The Damau Household Milk Farm, initiated by the Kaduna State Government, aims to settle 1,000 households with improved cattle breeds, pasture, and veterinary care. The Danish Government is also sponsoring dairy development projects in the area, such as the Partnership for Green and Productive Dairy in Nigeria and the Sedentarization and Climate Change Resilience in Nigeria (SCREEN) Project.
