Dozens of jobs are under threat at the UK's largest cheese factory in Cornwall as Saputo Dairy UK, owned by a Canadian company, has announced plans to cut 60 jobs at its Davidstow Creamery near Camelford.
The proposed move is part of a strategic shift to halt the production of ingredients for the baby formula market, which began in 2013, and to revert to producing sweet whey powder.
The company has attributed this decision to prevailing market conditions, stating the need to take "difficult but decisive actions." A consultation period will now commence with the affected employees to discuss the proposed changes.
