Isle of Man Implements New Milk Pricing Structure for 2023
The Isle of Man is experiencing changes in milk pricing as the Marketing Committee has approved a new structure set to be implemented later this year. The price of a pint of milk will increase by 6p, bringing it to 96p, while a one-litre carton will see a 10p rise, making it £1.60.
One significant change is the introduction of a banded pricing system for larger containers of 1.75 litres and above. Under this system, the price per litre will vary depending on the weekly volume purchased from the same supplier. Customers buying lower volumes will pay £1.43 per litre, while those purchasing in bulk will see the price drop to £1.27 per litre.
This new pricing strategy is part of broader efforts to ensure the sustainability of the island's dairy industry and maintain a steady supply of fresh Manx milk for consumers. Milk supplied to schools will remain at its current price until January 1, 2027.
The announcement coincides with the news of Findlay Macleod stepping down as the managing director of Isle of Man Creamery after 26 years. Macleod expressed pride in his work with the dairy community and looks forward to new personal endeavors.
The changes in pricing and leadership signal a transformative period for the island's dairy sector, aiming to adapt to future challenges while preserving its local agricultural traditions.
