Ireland Launches Payments for Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme
The Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Martin Heydon, announced on March 21 that payments for the first year of the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan (CSP) Dairy Beef Welfare Scheme have commenced.

Over €4.73 million is being issued to 7,612 farmers participating in the scheme, designed to improve the health and welfare of the national dairy herd by using beef sires with better genetic merit.

Minister Heydon highlighted the scheme's significance, noting it has a €25 million budget over four years.

Payment is provided at €20 per eligible calf, up to a maximum of 50 per herd. Calves must be born between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2024. The payments will be reflected in farmers' bank records soon, as per the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).

Farmers with queries on their payments can contact the Direct Payments Helpline or the department's email.

Participants include farmers across various counties such as Cork and Galway.
