Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation Ltd (GCMMF), the marketing body behind the iconic 'Amul' brand, is set to make a significant investment of Rs 600 crore in Kolkata, India. The announcement came during the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), which drew to a close recently.

The new facility in Kolkata will host the world’s largest curd (dahi) manufacturing plant, with an anticipated production capacity of 10 lakh kg per day, according to Managing Director Jayen Mehta. This development marks a key milestone for GCMMF as it aims to meet the rising demand for curd in Kolkata and its periphery.

The investment will occur in two phases at Sankrail Food Park, Howrah, with the total milk processing capacity amounting to 15 lakh litres per day. The project reflects Amul’s strong market presence in West Bengal, where it supplies over 10 lakh litres of milk daily.

Additionally, GCMMF's expansion will further bolster the region's dairy cooperative movement under the White Revolution 2.0 initiative by the Indian Government. Amul already has a robust network covering 14 districts in Bengal, involving over 1.2 lakh women milk producers.

Globally, GCMMF stands as the largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, processing about 500 lakh litres of milk annually, with exports reaching approximately 50 countries worldwide. It ranks 8th in milk processing among global dairy companies.
