France’s Top 10 Dairy Suppliers Serve B2B Buyers

A broad supplier base

France produces about 23 billion litres of cow’s milk each year and is Europe’s second-largest cow’s-milk producer. Its dairy industry covers milk, cheese, butter, cream, yoghurt, goat products, powders and specialised ingredients. The ten suppliers identified for business-to-business sourcing are Lactalis, Sodiaal, Savencia, Eurial, Laïta, Les Maîtres Laitiers du Cotentin, Isigny Sainte-Mère, SILL Entreprises, Ingredia and Rians.

Lactalis is the largest company on the list. Headquartered in Laval, it reported revenue of €31.2 billion in 2025, employed 85,500 people and operated 266 dairies and cheese plants in 49 countries. The group collects about 23.1 billion litres of milk worldwide and sells in roughly 150 countries. Its range includes cheese, milk, butter, cream, yoghurt, chilled dairy, nutrition and dairy ingredients.

Cooperatives and private-label suppliers

Sodiaal represents about 14,500 dairy farmers and has approximately 9,000 employees. Its cooperative model links milk production with processing across drinking milk, butter, cream, cheese, yoghurt, fresh dairy, milk powder and ingredients. The group is among the suppliers considered for French-origin milk, organic products, regional specifications and large-scale volumes.

Eurial, part of Agrial Cooperative, reports revenue of €2.9 billion, 4,800 employees and 36 sites in France and abroad. International markets account for about 37% of its revenue. The company produces ultra-fresh dairy, goat cheese, butter, cream, mozzarella, organic dairy, milk powders, whey, casein and dairy proteins. It also has private-label and co-packing operations. Laïta, based in Brittany, reports turnover of about €1.7 billion, 3,200 employees and annual milk collection of roughly 1.5 billion litres. Its products include butter, cheese, ultra-fresh dairy, milk and powders such as skimmed milk powder, whey powder, caseins and caseinates.

Specialist and regional businesses

Les Maîtres Laitiers du Cotentin combines production, processing and distribution. Its activities include fresh dairy, cream, butter, cheese, foodservice and wholesale distribution, with a focus on chilled products and downstream logistics. Isigny Sainte-Mère is a Normandy cooperative known for protected-origin butter and cream, as well as cheese and milk powders. It reports about 1,250 employees, 590 milk producers and distribution in more than 100 countries.

SILL Entreprises, a family-owned group in Brittany, reports turnover of approximately €674 million, 1,700 employees and around 342 million litres of milk processed. Its portfolio covers fresh dairy, butter, cream, UHT products, milk powder, nutrition and dairy ingredients, with products distributed in about 80 countries. Ingredia focuses on business-to-business ingredients rather than primarily on supermarket dairy. It supplies powders, functional proteins, nutritional proteins and other dairy ingredients for bakery, confectionery, beverages, prepared foods, nutrition and sports nutrition; exports represent about 46% of its sales. Rians, a family-owned company with roots dating to 1901, makes speciality cheese, fresh dairy, desserts, yoghurt, goat cheese and regional products.

Matching suppliers with purchasing requirements

Supplier suitability varies by product and contract. Lactalis and Sodiaal are listed for large-scale dairy supply; Savencia, Lactalis and Sodiaal for cheese; and Savencia, Rians and Isigny Sainte-Mère for premium cheese. Eurial and Rians cover goat cheese, while butter and cream are supplied by several of Lactalis, Eurial, Laïta, Sodiaal and Isigny Sainte-Mère. Ingredia, SILL, Laïta and Eurial are identified for milk powder, while Ingredia, Laïta and Eurial serve dairy-ingredient requirements. Les Maîtres Laitiers du Cotentin and Isigny Sainte-Mère are listed for foodservice, and Lactalis, Savencia, Laïta and SILL for international supply.

Private-label programmes can require control over recipes, pack formats, nutritional specifications, milk origin, packaging, shelf life and volumes. Eurial and Laïta are particularly relevant in this area, with Sodiaal offering cooperative milk and processing capacity. Buyers are advised to verify capabilities at individual factory level, including capacity, minimum order quantities, certifications and packaging equipment.

Checks before contracting

Procurement teams may assess factory location, production capacity, minimum order quantities, lead times, shelf life, product specifications, milk origin, certifications, packaging, private-label experience, export history, technical support, cold-chain requirements, traceability and food-safety systems. Certifications can differ between facilities within one group. France’s supplier network includes multinational corporations, farmer-owned cooperatives, private-label manufacturers, regional cheese producers and specialist ingredient companies.
