Fonterra unveiled its new Anchor Easy Bakery Cream at the China International Import Expo (CIIE) in Shanghai, signaling its intent to strengthen its position in China’s fast-growing UHT cream market.
Teh-han Chow, Fonterra’s Chief Executive Officer for Greater China, highlighted the significance of the new product in expanding the cooperative’s reach in the region.
“Innovative products like Anchor Easy Bakery Cream are essential to maintaining our market leadership in China’s competitive foodservice sector while enabling us to expand into new cities,” Chow said.
Focused Growth in the Foodservice Channel
The Anchor Easy Bakery Cream, made with 100% New Zealand dairy, is tailored for China’s mid-tier bakery segment—the fastest-growing category in the UHT cream market. The launch reflects Fonterra’s broader strategy to capitalize on high-value foodservice channels, including staples like cream cheese, UHT cream, and mozzarella.
China’s demand for UHT cream is fueled by a burgeoning middle class, urbanization, and increasing awareness of dairy’s nutritional benefits.
“The Anchor Easy Bakery Cream is designed to attract a new customer base seeking high-quality, functional dairy bakery cream at competitive prices. Together with our Anchor Whipping Cream, this launch strengthens our leadership in the UHT market,” Chow noted.
Innovation and Sustainability at CIIE
Fonterra’s booth at CIIE 2024 also showcased its advancements in innovation and sustainability. In addition to its dairy portfolio, the cooperative featured tools like the Carbon Footprinter, enabling customers to calculate the emissions profile of products and manage their carbon footprint.
“CIIE offers an excellent platform to highlight Fonterra’s strategic focus on sustainability, nutrition, and locally driven innovation,” Chow said.
The cooperative operates six application centers across China, allowing collaboration with customers and technical experts to develop tailored product applications.
Fonterra’s investment in innovative dairy solutions underscores its commitment to meeting evolving consumer demands while advancing its sustainability objectives in the Chinese market.
