Fire Incident at SanCor Sunchales Plant Amidst Bankruptcy Proceedings
A fire erupted on Sunday evening at the SanCor plant in Sunchales, Argentina, which is currently out of operation due to the ongoing bankruptcy process of the historic dairy cooperative. The incident occurred after 7 PM, prompting a response from local volunteer firefighters, police, and emergency teams who worked for several hours to contain the blaze and prevent its spread to other sections of the facility.
Initial reports suggest that the fire originated from a short circuit in the UAT area, which houses control, laboratory, and technical maintenance sectors. Marcelo Gornati, the former general manager of SanCor, stated, "It was a short circuit in the UAT area, control and laboratory sector. The exact location is unknown, but firefighters are working on it."
Fortunately, there were no workers present at the plant during the incident, as operations have been halted. According to the Ministry of Security of Santa Fe, the fire affected an internal warehouse where maintenance workshops, laboratories, and technical offices are located. Firefighters carried out cooling and ventilation efforts due to the significant accumulation of smoke that extended to adjacent warehouses.
Although no injuries have been reported, assessments are ongoing to determine the full extent of the material damage caused by the fire. The Sunchales plant is one of the industrial facilities of SanCor that remains inactive while the judicial bankruptcy process progresses.
In recent weeks, various companies and investment groups have shown interest in some of SanCor's industrial assets. This incident occurs amid rising anticipation within the Argentine dairy sector about the future direction of the cooperative, once considered one of the most iconic in the national dairy industry.
