FAME's Dairy Initiative Boosts Productivity and Income for Indian Farmers

The Foundation for Advancement of Micro Enterprises (FAME) has initiated a transformative program in India's dairy sector, affecting more than 200,000 rural farmers in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Jharkhand. This program addresses key obstacles such as poor livestock management, limited veterinary care, and market exploitation by middlemen.

FAME employs a comprehensive strategy focusing on technical empowerment through enhanced skills in animal health, advanced nutrition, and modern breeding techniques. Operating in over 300 villages, the initiative aims to stimulate economic growth by prioritizing underserved rural areas and ensuring vital services reach the most in need.

Led by Chairman Mr. Brij Mohan, FAME's strategy is built on five pillars: expert veterinary advice and genetic enhancement, free veterinary services, Milk Collection Centres (MCCs) for fair pricing, FAME Service Centres for quality livestock inputs, and targeted artificial insemination programs.

Independent assessments show 89% of farmers experienced reduced disease incidence, and 63% received better milk prices. Overall, 74% of farmers saw income growth. An example is farmer Vakil from Meerut, who increased milk production and earnings after FAME's training.

FAME's 'repeat–reinforce–renew' framework and digital tools like the Dairy App support long-term viability, aligning with national rural and nutritional security goals and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
