Dairy farmers have until 11 September to enter the 2026 RABDF NMR Gold Cup, which recognises performance in areas including herd health, efficiency, management and innovation. The competition is open to several production systems, with the overall winner due to be announced at Dairy-Tech on 3 February 2027.

The award is organised by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers and sponsored by National Milk Records. The competition began in 1920 and accepts entries from farms using block-calving, grazing and housed systems.

Businesses may apply through their milk-recording organisation. Nominations may also be submitted by consultants, discussion groups or companies that support the farm. Entries for the 2026 competition must be received by 11 September.

To qualify, a herd must include at least 100 cows or heifers that meet the competition’s lactation requirements. Farms must also satisfy the specified standards for somatic cell count and genetic merit. Entrants are required to provide official milk-recording information on milk production, somatic cell count and genetic merit.

Block-calving herds have an additional requirement: they must submit either a Spring or Autumn calving index. The criteria cover the data used to assess production and herd performance within the competition.

Robert Craig, chairman of the RABDF, said the award allows farmers to compare their businesses with others and present their achievements. “It is a fantastic opportunity for farmers to benchmark their businesses, showcase what they are achieving and learn from others across the industry,” he said. Craig also urged eligible dairy farmers to enter the competition.

After entries close, the judging panel will visit the shortlisted businesses during the autumn. The programme includes the overall Gold Cup as well as awards for the highest-ranking Holstein, Jersey and other-breed herds. The Chris May Memorial Award will go to the herd recording the highest Lifetime Daily Yield. The overall result will be announced at Dairy-Tech on 3 February 2027.
