Dairy Exports Surge as Uruguay's Market Expands

In September 2025, Uruguay's dairy sector reported a remarkable increase in export requests, totaling USD 92 million, marking a 28% year-on-year growth. This expansion underscores the dairy sector's pivotal role in the nation's export landscape, as reported by Tardáguila.
The diversification of export destinations plays a critical role in this growth. Notably, Algeria accounted for 42% of the dairy exports, corresponding to USD 38 million, representing a 48% increase compared to the same month last year. Additionally, Brazil secured USD 23 million in exports, while Nigeria marked USD 3 million.
This export activity positioned the dairy sector as the fourth largest export earner for September. Overall, Uruguay’s external trade, inclusive of free zones, reached USD 1.242 billion in September, reflecting an overall 5% year-on-year growth. The performance demonstrates the external trade's essential contribution to Uruguay's dairy industry, compensating for domestic market volatility.
