Curlew Dairy Unveils New Facility for Artisan Unpasteurised Cheese in Wensleydale

The dairy, located in Carperby, has transformed unused farm buildings into a functional dairy and has already produced several tonnes of its Yoredale Wensleydale cheese. This launch coincides with the Yorkshire Dales Cheese Festival, representing a major advancement for the company.
The dairy is one of 14 businesses participating in the festival from October 11 to 18, highlighting local delicacies in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Until recently, Curlew Dairy operated from a converted garage before relocating. Ben Spence, the artisan cheesemaker, emphasized the unique qualities of his unpasteurised cheese, known for its distinctive mould growth and flavour profile, aiming for a texture reminiscent of traditional farmhouse cheeses.
Spence credited the Wensleydale brand for aiding Curlew Dairy's market reach, including international exposure in the United States. He acknowledged the role of the late David Hartley and the Wensleydale Creamery in promoting the brand's reputation. Neil Heseltine, from the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, commended the investment, suggesting that producers like Curlew Dairy help people appreciate the unique qualities of the area.
