Craven Dairy Auction Sees Top Sales in June Show in Skipton
The Craven Dairy Auction, held in early June in Skipton, highlighted the sale of Aytonian Ada 141, a third calver yielding 45 kg and calved since early April. This cow, with a pedigree of nine generations rated VG or EX, was crowned champion under the judgment of Georgie Fort Minish. Ada's lineage includes a sire stack by Mogul from an EX92-4E Planet dam and a granddam that is an EX91-4E Shottle.
Ada's second lactation produced 9,767 kg at 4.55% fat and 3.53% protein, with cell counts of 50. She was sold for a top price of £3,500 to the Young family from Wigton. Prior to her sale, Ada resided with the Petch Family of Great Ayton, having been acquired as a calf at a 2021 charity auction.
The auction also saw a notable sale of Aireburn Earlybird Clara 2, a heifer that fetched £3,200. Sired by Westcoast Earlybird, this heifer was sold by Brian and Judith Moorhouse and was bought by Alan and Emily Middleton of Beamsley.
Overall, cows in milk averaged £3,500, while heifers in milk averaged £2,600. The next Craven Dairy Auction is scheduled for June 22, coinciding with the ongoing annual harvest.
Additional Information
Show judge Georgie Fort Minish praised the quality of the entries, particularly noting the balanced size and youthful udder of Ada. In reserve was the Clara heifer, which had freshly calved two weeks prior and yielded 34 kg.
