Courtauld Commitment 2030 Renamed UK Food and Drink Pact

The Courtauld Commitment has been a significant force in uniting businesses, government, and sector leaders to address critical issues like food waste and greenhouse gas emissions for 20 years. It has now undergone a rebranding and will be known as the UK Food and Drink Pact. This evolution is spearheaded by WRAP, a global environmental action NGO focused on circular living benefits for climate, nature, and people.
The rebranding to the UK Food and Drink Pact aims to fortify WRAP’s collaborative efforts for a more sustainable food and drink system. This move aligns with global objectives, complementing initiatives like the UK Plastics Pact and the expanding global Food Pact Network.
The initiative invites various organizations across the food and drink supply chain to participate voluntarily. Members, including prominent companies like Aldi, Arla, McDonald's, and Nestlé, are expected to commit to ambitious goals by 2030. These include reducing food waste per capita by 50%, halving greenhouse gas emissions, and ensuring sustainable water management for half of fresh food sources. Such targets support global goals like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 12.3 and 6.
The pact brings together nearly 200 organizations, setting a benchmark for a circular food system. According to Cailey Grice, delivery manager for the UK Food & Drink Pact, membership allows businesses to access resources and collaborate on sustainability challenges.
The rebrand follows a fresh visual and verbal identity overhaul for WRAP, aiming to enhance its global recognition and reinforce its dedication to sustainability.
