Chihuahua Invests $7 Million in Modernizing Dairy Production
The government of Chihuahua has allocated over $7 million in 2025 to strengthen its dairy industry, which produces 3.2 million liters of milk daily, valued annually at 17 billion pesos. Roberto Valdez, head of Dairy Development in the Secretariat of Rural Development, confirmed Chihuahua's status as the fourth largest milk producer in Mexico, creating thousands of direct and indirect jobs in a key economic chain.
The investment focuses on modernizing 14 collection centers that handle 450,000 liters weekly, destined for powdered milk processing. The upgrades include solar panels, advanced cooling tanks, and on-site laboratory equipment for quality analysis, aiming to improve operational efficiency and reduce spoilage during transport.
Furthermore, a food security program has distributed 189 diagnostic kits for detecting antibiotic residues, benefiting 741 producers with a 1.5 million peso investment. This measure addresses food safety demands in domestic and export markets by preventing contaminated milk from reaching processors.
The state also allocated 5.063 million pesos for distributing 1,168.5 tons of dairy concentrate and 1,965 bales of straw, exceeding one million pesos in value, to 779 producers, including Mennonite communities, enhancing their integration into state support schemes.
For 2026, the strategy will include technical assistance through collection centers and cheese factories, focusing on quality and safety programs to reduce losses from antibacterial treatments and ensure contaminant-free milk.
