Cheshire East Council Highlights Bidlea Dairy's Farm-to-Bottle Success
Cheshire East Council recently visited Bidlea Dairy near Holmes Chapel, celebrating the success of the farm's innovative approach to the dairy industry. This visit was part of the council's Made in Cheshire East campaign, which aims to highlight businesses that contribute to the local economy and showcase the region's agricultural heritage.
Bidlea Dairy, located at The Orchards Farm in Twemlow, is operated by the Brown family, who have been managing the business for over 40 years. Originally starting with 20 cows, the farm has expanded to a herd of nearly 1,000 Holstein Friesians, known for their award-winning quality. The farm has successfully integrated traditional farming techniques with modern, customer-focused practices.
A key aspect of Bidlea Dairy's success is its farm-to-bottle model. Milk is produced, processed, and bottled on-site, ensuring freshness, reducing food miles, and providing customers with full traceability. This model strengthens local supply chains and supports sustainability efforts.
In addition to dairy production, Bidlea Dairy has become a popular local attraction, featuring a farm shop, café, and a variety of award-winning ice creams made from its own milk. The business emphasizes sustainability and animal welfare, implementing initiatives like reusable milk bottle schemes and environmentally responsible land management.
Council leaders, including Councillor Nick Mannion and Councillor Michael Gorman, praised Bidlea Dairy for its innovation and contribution to the local community. Mannion remarked on the farm's ability to add local value while maintaining high standards of quality and sustainability. Gorman highlighted the role of such businesses in promoting Cheshire East as a destination for enjoying local produce and supporting independent enterprises.
Adam Brown, founder and owner of Bidlea Dairy, expressed pride in producing high-quality milk in Cheshire and noted the business's growth while adhering to family values. Beyond its own products, Bidlea Dairy collaborates with other local producers, contributing to Cheshire East's food and drink sector and the broader visitor economy.
