Cargill Opens Largest Dairy Feed Plant in South Asia in Punjab
Cargill Animal Nutrition & Health has launched a significant dairy feed plant in Wazirabad, Punjab, marking a major step in its commitment to India's livestock industry. With an investment of INR 300 crore, the plant spans 15 acres and boasts an annual production capacity of 400,000 metric tons, making it the largest dairy feed facility in South Asia.
The new plant is strategically located in one of North India's most productive dairy regions and is Cargill's second facility in Punjab, following the one in Bathinda. The plant will manufacture feed under renowned brands such as Provimi and Purina, ensuring a consistent supply of high-quality, low-toxin feed that meets BIS standards.
This facility is equipped with advanced automation and modern production technologies, which are expected to enhance milk yields, improve animal health, and increase farm profitability. The plant's opening aligns with the Indian government's 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives by strengthening domestic manufacturing and supporting rural livelihoods.
The inauguration was attended by Punjab's Minister of Industries & Commerce, Sanjeev Arora, alongside Cargill's leadership team. The company emphasized that this investment underscores its dedication to safety, quality, biosecurity, and sustainable food systems, while contributing to the expansion of India's dairy value chain.
India, being the world's largest milk producer, contributes over a quarter of the global milk supply. With the dairy sector accounting for nearly 5% of the national economy and supporting over eight crore farmers, access to quality dairy feed is crucial for the sector's continued growth.
