Fighting world hunger requires greater investment in science, technology and innovation so that agricultural and food systems can produce more with less. This was stated by the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Qu Dongyu.
Speaking at the Global Food Security Summit in London, he called for a “sustained and consistent commitment” from policymakers to deliver the benefits of science and technology for all, as well as access to timely investment. His words were reported by the FAO press service.
The Global Summit on Food Security is taking place in London with the participation of representatives of governments from about 15 countries, international organizations, the scientific community and business. The event was organized by the UK authorities with the support of the UAE and Somalia, as well as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the charity The Children's Investment Fund Foundation.
