Belarus is showing steady growth in its dairy export potential: according to a forecast by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the country is expected to increase its exports of butter and cheese in 2025, despite a general decline in global exports across several categories.

In particular, Belarusian butter exports are projected by the FAO to grow by 1.5% to 100,000 tons — significantly outpacing the global average growth rate, which is forecast at just 0.4%. Notably, according to data from Rosselkhoznadzor, 106.4 thousand tons of Belarusian butter were delivered to the Russian market in 2024 alone, accounting for 79% of Russia’s total butter imports.
In 2024, Belarus also recorded its first shipment of butter to China via an exchange-based mechanism, marking a new direction for market expansion.
As for cheese, while the global market is expected to shrink by 0.2%, Belarusian cheese exports are forecast to rise by 5%, reaching 324,000 tons.
