The Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) introduced temporary restrictions on the import and transit of certain types of animals and animal products from a number of countries starting July 3, 2025. The measures were taken in response to the worsening epizootic situation in specific regions of Europe and Africa.
Azerbaijan has restricted the import of livestock and livestock products

The list of restricted items includes:

  • Live horses and their breeding material

  • Small and large ruminants

  • Poultry

  • Livestock and poultry products

The geographic scope of the restrictions covers:

  • Namibia (regions of Omaheke, Otjozondjupa, Khomas, Hardap, Erongo)

  • Bulgaria (Plovdiv Province)

  • France (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region)

  • Italy (Lombardy region)

  • North Macedonia (southeastern part of the country)

  • United Kingdom (Wrexham region, Wales)

The reason for the restrictions is outbreaks of zoonotic diseases reported by the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), including:

  • African horse sickness

  • Sheep and goat pox

  • Lumpy skin disease

  • Newcastle disease

  • Highly pathogenic avian influenza
