Arla Foods, the global dairy cooperative, is set to expand its product offerings at Global Dairy Trade (GDT) events by introducing mozzarella blocks, starting from the September 17 auction. This new addition will be available to customers based in the UK and the European Union, further diversifying Arla's portfolio at these influential trading events.

Arla Foods, owned by over 9,700 farmers across seven countries—Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom—continues to strengthen its position in the global dairy market. The cooperative's decision to offer mozzarella blocks aligns with its broader strategy to enhance its product range and meet the growing demand for dairy ingredients.

In a significant move earlier this year, Arla Foods announced an investment exceeding £300 million across five of its UK sites, aimed at bolstering UK manufacturing and securing the future of British dairy. This investment includes upgrades and expansions at its dairies and creameries in Lockerbie, Stourton, Aylesbury, and Westbury, alongside the previously announced plans for its Taw Valley site. Arla Foods currently operates nine production sites across the UK, producing a variety of milk, butter, cheese, and other dairy products.

Global Dairy Trade (GDT) runs bi-monthly trading events, facilitating transactions for core dairy products between buyers and sellers from 70 countries. These events generate between $2 billion and $3 billion in trade annually. The most recent GDT auction on August 20 saw the price index increase by 5.5%, marking the third consecutive rise after a sharp 7% drop following the July 2 auction.

Key dairy products such as anhydrous milk fat, butter, cheddar, lactose, mozzarella, skim milk powder (SMP), and whole milk powder (WMP) were featured at the latest event, with most products recording price increases. Notably, WMP prices surged by 7.2% to $3,482 per metric ton, mozzarella prices rose by 5% to $4,810 per metric ton, and anhydrous milk fat increased by a similar margin to $7,244 per metric ton. Butter and SMP also saw price hikes of 3.7% and 4% respectively, while lactose experienced a 2.7% increase. Cheddar was the only product to record a slight decrease in average price, dipping by 0.2% to $4,274 per metric ton.

Arla Foods' participation in the GDT events with its new mozzarella blocks offering is expected to further solidify its presence in the global dairy market and cater to the evolving needs of its international customer base.
