Arla Foods has started construction on a £179 million mozzarella plant in Devon, aiming for operation by 2027.

Arla Foods, the UK's largest dairy cooperative, has commenced work on its £179 million mozzarella facility in Devon. This marks one of the business's largest UK investments as announced last year, with operations anticipated to begin by 2027.
The Taw Valley Creamery in North Tawton will receive enhancements with state-of-the-art technology, facilitating mozzarella production aimed at exports for pizza toppings globally. The project is expected to create over 100 skilled jobs, adding various roles, including apprentices, to the local community.
Vice President of Production in the UK, Fran Ball, stated: "We’re incredibly proud to see work has begun on our state-of-the-art mozzarella plant in the UK. This is a really exciting time for Arla, and for all our colleagues at Taw Valley – as we continue to showcase Arla leading British dairy production." The announcement follows Arla’s 2024 annual results, which revealed record global investments of over EUR 1 billion.
Additionally, Arla plans to inject £90 million into its Lockerbie site to further enhance UK manufacturing and support the future of British dairy. Bas Padberg, managing director of Arla Foods UK, emphasized the commitment: "The investment into our Taw Valley site showcases our commitment to driving change in the UK, and supporting the future of British dairy. We are already one of the leading players in the global mozzarella market, providing quality cheese to customers worldwide, but this investment allows us to continue to support our farmer owners by returning the best price for their milk."
