Argentina Gains Access to Indonesian Dairy Market
Argentina has successfully reopened its market for dairy products in Indonesia, a country recognized as one of the largest importers of dairy goods in Southeast Asia. This achievement was announced by Argentina's Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, and was made possible through cooperation with the Argentine Foreign Ministry, the National Service of Agri-Food Health and Quality (Senasa), and Indonesia's Directorate General of Livestock and Animal Health Services (DGLAHS).
In addition to dairy products, the agreement also permits the entry of Argentine beef into Indonesia, further expanding the reach of Argentina's agro-industrial sector in a market with significant potential. Indonesia's dairy market was valued at approximately $1.6 billion in 2025, reflecting strong demand for milk and cream. Until now, the primary suppliers to this market have been New Zealand, Australia, the United States, and Belgium.
The reopening of the Indonesian market to Argentine dairy products was contingent upon the completion of sanitary evaluations and technical exchanges between the relevant authorities of both countries. These processes established the conditions that Argentine facilities must meet to export dairy products to Indonesia. Such sanitary agreements are crucial prerequisites for the international trade of animal-origin food products.
In 2025, Argentina exported 389,458 tons of dairy products, which amounted to $1.474 billion in value. From January to May 2026, the export volume reached 155,874 tons, equivalent to $552 million, indicating continued growth in the sector's international trade. The inclusion of Indonesia as an export destination offers Argentina an opportunity to diversify its markets and reduce reliance on traditional ones.
The Argentine government has emphasized that opening the Indonesian market is part of a broader strategy to strengthen the international presence of its agro-industrial products and create new commercial opportunities. For the dairy industry, accessing a large-scale importing market like Indonesia represents a chance to boost exports and solidify Argentina's presence in Asia, a region with rapidly growing food demand.
