Amul Dairy's Role in Gujarat's Agro-Industrial Growth Highlighted

The Press Information Bureau's media delegation recently visited the Amul Dairy in Anand, Gujarat, part of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF). The visit aimed to provide insights into the dairy's operations and its impact on the agro-industrial sector.

Amul Dairy procures approximately 11 billion liters of milk each year from about 3.6 million farmers. The Anand facility alone is among the world’s largest, with a processing capacity of nearly 50 million liters per day. This scale places it among the top global daily milk processors.

During the financial year 2024–25, the dairy's milk procurement was around 1.75 billion kilograms, achieving a turnover of about 1.63 billion US dollars. The integrated model of procurement, processing, value addition, and nationwide marketing significantly contributes to rural income generation and enhances women's participation in dairy activities.

The cooperative structure involves around 0.8 million farmers through 1,278 village cooperative societies linked to the Anand union. This model not only boosts the agricultural economy of Gujarat but also plays a crucial role across India.

The media delegation was informed about the dairy's processing techniques, value addition strategies, and the range of products marketed under the Amul brand. This visit highlighted the dairy's contribution to economic growth, rural development, and employment generation in Gujarat.
