Amul and IFFCO Lead Global Cooperative Rankings, Highlighting India's Dairy Success

India has achieved a significant milestone in the global cooperative sector as Amul and Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO) have secured the first and second positions among the world's top ten cooperatives. This achievement underscores the robustness of India's cooperative ecosystem, which is deeply rooted in community participation, innovation, and self-reliance.

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah congratulated both institutions, describing it as a 'proud moment for Bharat.' He emphasized the dedication of millions of women associated with Amul and the farmers contributing to IFFCO, highlighting the potential of India's cooperative movement under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of empowerment and self-reliance.

Amul leads India's dairy sector, which is a global example of inclusive growth that integrates farmer-led cooperatives, women's participation, and scientific innovation. As the world's largest milk producer, India is committed to enhancing its cooperative institutions through policy support, credit schemes, and research in fodder and animal health, ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability.

In 2023, the National Co-operative Exports Limited (NCEL) was established, achieving exports worth ₹5,403 crore across various agricultural and processed commodities, such as rice, sugar, baby food, and spices. Promoted by leading cooperatives including IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, GCMMF (Amul), and NCDC, NCEL signifies India's growing influence in global agri-trade.

The dual recognition of Amul and IFFCO not only marks a moment of national pride but also indicates that India's cooperative framework is evolving into a global model of inclusive economic growth and rural transformation.
