A Mid Wales Farm Sale Drew a Large Crowd

Halls Auctioneers of Shrewsbury conducted the machinery auction at Bryn-y-Maes, Abermule, on behalf of Rob, Jan and Barry George. The family is relinquishing its tenancy at the Mid Wales dairy farm, where it established a dairy herd over 28 years.

The herd itself was sold at Shrewsbury Auction Centre in the previous month. The later auction focused on farm machinery and equipment from Bryn-y-Maes, alongside surplus items consigned by farms in the surrounding area.

The highest price among the George family’s machinery was £17,500 for a 2003 John Deere 6420 four-wheel-drive tractor. The tractor had recorded 7,900 hours. A 2009 Manitou MLT731, with 7,040 hours, sold for £13,000, while a 2017 Abbey 1600 Vacci Tanker reached £6,800.

Dairy-specific equipment also attracted buyers. An artificial-insemination flask sold for £420, and a Wes Parlour Vacuum Pump made £660. These lots were included in the sale of equipment connected with the dairy operation.

Machinery and livestock equipment from 20 neighbouring farms were included in the auction. Among the leading prices were £3,600 for a 1996 Collins eight-tonne silage trailer with sides and £3,200 for a 2,500-gallon Slurry Guzzler.

Other notable sales included a Welgar AP530 square baler at £2,200, a Krone trailed mower conditioner at £1,700 and a Kuhn FC283 GII mower conditioner at £1,600. An Ifor Williams tri-axle stock trailer fitted with sheep decks sold for £1,400, while two Watson cattle feeders achieved £1,300.
