Palm oil imports to India in June 2025 rose by 61% compared to May, reaching 953,000 tonnes — the highest level since July 2024, according to estimates by leading traders cited by Reuters.
Palm oil imports to India reached an 11-month high in June

Main reasons for the increase:

  • Low domestic stocks

  • Significant price drop: palm oil is about $100/ton cheaper than soybean and sunflower oils

  • Increased buying by refiners due to the price discount

“Palm oil is regaining market share. It is currently almost $100 cheaper than its competitors,” said Sandeep Bajoria, CEO of Sunvin Group.

India's import dynamics:

  • Average monthly palm oil imports over the first seven months of the current marketing year (through October 2025): 475,699 tonnes

  • For comparison: in the previous season — over 750,000 tonnes/month

At the same time:

  • Soybean oil imports in June fell by 9% to 363,000 tonnes

  • Sunflower oil imports rose by 18% to 216,000 tonnes

As a result, India’s total vegetable oil imports in June reached 1.53 million tonnes — up 30% from May, and the highest level since November 2024.

Palm oil imports are expected to remain high in the coming months due to lower prices and increased production.
