The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has approved Müller UK and Ireland’s acquisition of Yew Tree Dairy, a family-owned dairy company based in Skelmersdale, West Lancashire. The deal, first announced in June, is set to be completed by the end of this month.
CMA Approves Müller’s Acquisition of Yew Tree Dairy to Boost UK Dairy Exports

Yew Tree Dairy specialises in milk powders, bulk cream, and raw liquid milk for the UK and European markets. Müller plans to leverage Yew Tree’s milk powder production capabilities to strengthen its export business and enhance supply chain resilience.

Müller stated that the acquisition would support the British dairy industry’s sustainability, quality, and welfare efforts. Rob Hutchison, CEO of Müller Milk & Ingredients, emphasized the company’s ambition to expand its powdered milk production and secure benefits for farmers, customers, and consumers alike.

The CMA launched a merger inquiry in August to assess potential competition concerns but has now cleared the acquisition. Müller plans to use its internal expertise to enhance milk drying capabilities and become a key exporter of British-made powdered milk.

Carl Woodcock of Yew Tree Dairy expressed confidence in Müller’s commitment to the business, ensuring continued success for the company’s employees, farmers, and customers.
