Cheese production in the Russian Federation has doubled over the past ten years, exceeding 800,000 tons last year. This significant growth was made possible by the food embargo introduced in August 2014, which stimulated domestic producers. This was reported by the Russian Minister of Agriculture, Oksana Lut, following her visit to a cheese festival in the Moscow region.

The head of the Ministry of Agriculture emphasized that Russian cheesemakers not only fully supply the domestic market with high-quality and diverse products but also actively develop exports. Over the past decade, many farm cheese dairies have appeared in the country, and today there are more than a thousand producers across Russia, each offering unique products.
"The next task is to develop the brand of Russian cheese on the world market, where it can find its niche, successfully competing with many well-known brands," said Oksana Lut, noting the potential of Russian cheese products.
During her visit to the Moscow region, the Minister of Agriculture, together with the chairman of the "People's Farmer" association, Oleg Sirota, participated in laying the first stone of the new plant of JSC "Istra Cheese Dairy." The construction of the enterprise, planned to begin in the fall of 2024, will allow for the processing of 120 tons of milk per day.
