This was my key takeaway from the Panel at the P2DNZ (Pathways to Dairy Net Zero) workshop on the topic "INNOVATION AND CUSTOMER PUSHBACK".
We discussed the case of Bovaer, a product approved in 68 countries to reduce methan emissions and the reaction in UK after Arla Foods has announced to use it.

This led in 2024 to significant social media backlash:

Consumer Protests: Videos surfaced of individuals pouring Arla milk down drains and in supermarkets to protest the use of Bovaer.

Boycott Calls: Thousands on social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter), pledged to boycott Arla products, including brands like Cravendale and Lurpak, due to unsubstantiated safety concerns.

Thanks Donald Moore, Richard Dewhurst and Dennis Rijnders for sharing the background on this case of new technologies and consumer acceptance.
