In Russia, Cheese Production Increased by 1.1%, but Output Decreased to 82.2 Thousand Tons
In January 2026, Russia recorded mixed dynamics in the cheese and cheese products segment: while cheese production grew, the overall output of the category declined. The production of cheese and cheese products decreased by 3.8% year-on-year to 82.2 thousand tons.
At the same time, a structural redistribution is observed within the segment:
- cheese production increased by 1.1%, reaching 70.8 thousand tons;
- the output of cheese products decreased by 25.9%, down to 11.4 thousand tons.
In 2025, the consumption of the category decreased by 1.1%, totaling 1.323 million tons. However, mixed dynamics are also observed within the segment:
- cheese consumption increased by 1.5%;
- consumption of cheese products decreased by 15.1%.
This confirms a steady trend of consumers moving away from cheaper substitutes in favor of natural products.
Warehouse stocks demonstrate a similar structure:
- stocks of cheese products decreased by 24%, down to 11.7 thousand tons;
- in contrast, cheese stocks increased by 35%, reaching 79.1 thousand tons.
The growth in cheese stocks alongside increased production indicates a risk of forming an oversupply in the segment.
