Uttar Pradesh Initiates Major Dairy Infrastructure Expansion in Bundelkhand

The Government of Uttar Pradesh has cleared plans to enhance dairy processing infrastructure in the Bundelkhand region. This initiative was approved during a Cabinet meeting led by Yogi Adityanath, aiming to bolster milk processing capabilities and improve the economic prospects for rural producers.

The expansion plan involves constructing a new dairy processing plant in Banda, designed to handle 20,000 litres per day (LPD). In addition to this, the existing dairy facility in Jhansi will undergo a capacity increase, expanding fr om 10,000 LPD to 30,000 LPD. This tripling of capacity is expected to significantly enhance the region's milk processing efficiency.

The Indian Dairy Machinery Company Ltd has been appointed as the executing agency for this project. The company will manage both civil and mechanical construction tasks on a turnkey basis, with the state government funding the entire project.

The expansion addresses critical supply chain issues in Bundelkhand, wh ere limited processing facilities have previously led to milk spoilage and financial losses for producers. By increasing formal processing capacity, the project aims to improve milk procurement systems and stabilize pricing, thereby ensuring better financial returns for farmers.

Moreover, the initiative is part of a broader effort to support dairy-led rural growth in Uttar Pradesh, India’s largest milk-producing state. Strengthening the processing infrastructure in underdeveloped areas like Bundelkhand could reduce post-harvest losses and foster local value chain development, including chilling centers and transport networks.

The project is also anticipated to create numerous employment opportunities within the dairy sector, from logistics to retail distribution. This aligns with Uttar Pradesh's economic goals, including its ambition to become a USD 1-trillion economy, by enhancing rural income and supporting the organized dairy sector's growth.

For Bundelkhand, a region often affected by water scarcity and agricultural challenges, the development of dairy infrastructure represents a vital and stable income source for farmers, making this investment particularly impactful.
