USDA Allocates $263 Million for Dairy and Specialty Crop Paurchases
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has unveiled plans to purchase up to $263 million in agricultural products, as announced by Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins. This initiative, under Section 32 of the Agriculture Act of 1935, aims to support U.S. producers by distributing these goods to food banks and nutrition assistance programs nationwide.
Significantly, the USDA plans to allocate $148 million of the total funds specifically for the purchase of dairy products, highlighting the emphasis on supporting the dairy industry. The remaining funds will be used to acquire various specialty crops.
In response to the announcement, the National Milk Producers Federation (NMPF) expressed gratitude towards the USDA and Rollins for their efforts to address low milk prices and promote dairy consumption. Gregg Doud, President and CEO of NMPF, stated that these purchases would provide crucial relief to dairy farmers, helping them overcome economic challenges and continue supplying nutritious dairy products.
Rollins emphasized the broader economic impact of these purchases, noting their role in stabilizing farm income, protecting rural jobs, and reinforcing agriculture as a cornerstone of economic resilience. These investments are part of a broader strategy to sustain rural communities and strengthen the food supply under President Trump's leadership.
The USDA's commitment to supporting the agricultural economy through these purchases reflects its ongoing efforts to bolster both producers and consumers, ensuring the availability of essential food items across the country.
