Was very pleased to have the opportunity to remote speak at the GIRA DAIRY CLUB conference, which took place last week in Geneva. Many thanks to Christophe Lafougere for the invitation and for his interest in the situation in Ukraine and the prospects for the development of the Ukrainian dairy market.
Ukraine’s Dairy Sector Shows Remarkable Resilience and Growth Amid Ongoing Challenges
This topic is extremely important because, despite the war, Ukrainian business demonstrates resilience and economic sustainability, which is currently a widely discussed issue in the EU. Even under challenging circumstances, Ukraine’s dairy sector is developing, investing, growing in volume and quality, and adapting its legislative framework as part of the European integration process.

A few points from my presentation:
  • Average milk yield in agri enterprises surpassed 8000 per cow in 2024
  • Share of ‘extra’ grade raw milk was 55% of total processed in 2024 vs 27% in 2021
  • Dairy sector commitment - 100% raw milk quality under EU requirements till 2030
  • Current density of cows per 100 ha of agriland in Ukraine is 3 times lower than in EU
  • >120 dairy farm projects (new and reconstruction) as of summer 2025
  • Trend for raw milk production will be changed for positive already in next years (with stable investment pace)
  • Volume of delivered raw milk to process in 2025 will already back to 2021 figures with futher growth perspectives
  • However, the dairy sector needs more investment to cover domestic demand due to falling household self-sufficiency in dairy
  • With internal and EU specialists we’re building the Roadmap of Integration of UA Dairy with first draft version at the end of 2025
Thanks Véronique Aguera and the GIRA - A Girag & Associates Company team for the support in organization of the speech.
